Life members can invest in the future of our disciplines in many ways. You can volunteer to mentor a graduate student or early-career faculty member. You can buy one a coffee at the convention and ask about their work. You can reach out to a student from another campus whose work you’ve heard about or read and invite them to share more of their work with you.
In fact, we should do this much more often–without waiting until retirement or life membership…
